When is a bespoke kitchen worth the extra?
A bespoke kitchen in Barcelona costs between €4,500 and €16,000, with €7,900 the usual figure, and runs roughly 20–35 % above an equivalent modular kitchen. Fabrication takes four to six weeks once the design is signed off; installation is 12–25 working days. It pays for itself where there are columns, chamfered corners, out-of-square walls or ceiling height going to waste — which describes most flats in the Eixample.
The question is not whether bespoke costs more. It is how much usable storage you get back, and how many years you will be using it.

Where the budget actually goes
- Doors and worktop: large-format porcelain runs about three times laminate
- Layout change: moving the gas point or extractor means rebuilding ductwork
- Integrated appliances: bespoke adjustments around them add carcase cost
- Electrics: a modern kitchen needs dedicated circuits and more capacity than a 1970s flat provides

What bespoke solves in a Barcelona flat
Flats built before the 1960s share a set of awkward features, and they are exactly the ones catalogue kitchens cannot absorb.
The recurring obstacles
- Walls out of square by two centimetres or more over a three-metre run
- A chamfered corner where the building meets a street junction
- Ceilings of three metres, with the top half-metre unreachable in a standard kitchen
- A cast-iron soil stack boxed into the corner that cannot be moved
- A window mid-wall that interrupts the run of units
How that changes on site
Every carcase is dimensioned after a laser survey of the room as built, so filler strips do not have to hide the errors. Where a stack or a column intrudes, the unit is made to close around it instead of stopping short and leaving a gap that collects dust.
Materials that survive daily use
Compact quartz and large-format porcelain are the two worktops that still look the same after five years — quartz forgives knocks on edges better, porcelain takes a hot pan directly. Laminate is fine on a budget but will not take direct heat. For doors, matt lacquer gives a seamless look but needs an anti-fingerprint treatment; natural veneer is warmer and unique per panel, and wants more care near steam.

A large share of bespoke kitchens we build are signed off by owners who are not in Spain. It works, provided the decisions are pinned down in writing before fabrication starts, because a made-to-measure carcase cannot be revised afterwards.
What you approve before we cut anything
- A layout drawing with heights, drawer arrangement and door faces
- Appliance data sheets, so the apertures are exact — if you supply the appliances, we need these before fabrication
- Finishes for doors, worktop and splashback, confirmed by written order rather than a phone call
The comunidad, and what it can hold up
A kitchen refit is internal work covered by a prior notification. But the comunidad de propietarios sets the rules that govern the programme: permitted working hours, whether the lift may carry materials, and how the stairwell is protected. Where the building is planning a derrama for communal works, we check the timing so scaffolding on the façade does not arrive the week the worktop is due to be craned in.
What you receive each week
Photographs of progress and a note of anything found behind the old units — dead circuits, a leaking stopcock, damp behind the splashback. Any finding that affects cost is confirmed with you in writing before we act on it, never invoiced as a surprise.
